Dangerous Weather Ahead for the Second Week of May and Beyond

As of this writing, parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas dealt with the pummeling of softball-sized hail and flooding rain. In Texas, a 10-year-old was swept away by floodwaters.

Southeastern Louisiana was on a level 3 flash flood risk on Wednesday. Cars in parts of the state were stalled out in high waters.

According to the NOAA, there is also a severe storm risk for parts of the Northeast, from Virginia into central Maryland. The area will remain in a storm pattern from Friday through Saturday. The jet stream is poised to bring cooler and unsettled weather to the region.

In the Southwest, parts of the Rockies, and elevations above 7000 feet in Colorado and New Mexico are expected to see more snow.

Prepare for Early-Season Hurricanes, forecasters say

While the Atlantic Hurricane Season officially begins on Sunday, June 1, 2025, and runs through Sunday, November 30, 2025, forecasters predict the season could kick off early this year.

There's a small signal in the Caribbean Sea to the south of Central America that computer models seem to indicate a potential for an early-season spin up somewhere in the South or Western Caribbean, Click Orlando reported.

In light of the potential of an early season, the city of Galveston, Texas, in coordination with the NOAA, issued a hurricane preparedness graphic, which also considers possible fake news and clickbait reports, which are already occurring. Galveston and the NOAA advise the following:

> Rely on forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and your local NWS office.

> Know your alerts and the difference between a Watch and Warning.

> Focus on potential impacts, regardless of storm size or category.

> Know that deadly hazards occur well outside of the Forecast Cone.
