National Weather Service Kicks Off Spring Severe Weather Campaign 2026

The US National Weather Service (NWS), a division of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), launches its Spring Severe Weather Campaign for 2026 beginning on March 1.

Throughout the month, the organization will conduct tornado drills in various states, including a test tornado warning or a routine weekly test code sent at a predetermined time.

The NWS has posted the following dates and times for the first round of tornado drills:

ILLINOIS: March 3, 2026, around 10:00 a.m. CST. No communication drill, but the RWT code (Routine Weekly Test) will be sent out to promote preparedness activities. 

MISSOURI: March 4, 2026, around 11:00 a.m. CST. No communication drill, but the RWT code (Routine Weekly Test) will be sent out to promote preparedness activities. 

KENTUCKY: March 4, 2026, TOR Code 9:07 a.m. CST.

INDIANA: March 10, 2025, TOR Code 9:15 am CDT.

NWS Facebook Live Session: Ask Questions

The NWS will hold a Facebook Live session on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. CST. Members of the public will be able to ask questions live and receive answers related to severe weather preparedness. Visit http://www.facebook.com/NWSPaducah to view the live video session.

NWS to Post Severe Weather Safety Graphics on Social Media

In addition, the NWS will post graphics on its social media platforms (Facebook & Twitter) to provide a variety of information related to severe weather awareness and preparedness. This will include: general weather safety, tornado statistics, tornado safety, thunderstorm safety, outdoor weather safety, flooding safety, staying in the know, receiving weather alerts, weather emergency planning, and nighttime tornadoes.
