Thanksgiving Weather Forecast: What to Expect

Thanksgiving Holiday Travel Weather 2025 

Here is a look at various forecasts across the US during Thanksgiving week.

Tuesday:

If you'll be traveling around the north central US, a winter storm watch is in effect for Minnesota and North Dakota, where Monday night through Wednesday morning could see between 3 and 9 inches of snow. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph may also drive blowing and drifting snow.

For the East Coast, rain is expected along the Interstate 95 corridor from Boston to Washington, D.C., during the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday, ABC News reported.

Wednesday:

Snowfall is forecast for parts of the Midwest, particularly much of Michigan.

In the Northeast, passing showers are forecast from New York City to Washington, D.C. during the morning hours.

Parts of New York will be under a winter storm watch beginning in the evening hours through Friday, with wind gusts up to 45 mph and potentially whiteout conditions, and more than 6 inches of snow possible.

Thanksgiving Day:

Areas around the Great Lakes are forecast to receive a blast of Lake-effect snow throughout the day and through Friday.

Rain and snow for the Northwest, while a blanket of snow may extend across the northern Rockies from Idaho, stretching westward across the Dakotas, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and northern Missouri. 

Rain is forecast across the central regions of Texas and Oklahoma, as well as eastern Kansas, according to the Weather Channel.
